Stirling Methodist Church receives prestigious Eco Congregation Silver Award
Stirling Methodist Church has won a prestigious Silver Award as an EcoCongregation. The Award was presented to the Church by Stirling Cllr Alasdair Tollemache, on behalf of EcoCongregation Scotland. Over 130 churches across Scotland have earned a basic EcoCongregation Award. Stirling Methodists are amongst the first to gain a Silver Award. The Award recognises the work done to promote sustainability inside the Church, locally and globally. .As well as making the Church building more eco-friendly and moving to green electricity and gas, the Church grounds now feature a batbox, bee home, birdfeeders and a pallet garden. The Church has been a keen participant in the Transition Stirling Carbon Cutters programme and has now launched its own Carbon Cutters, starting with a campaign to cut down on plastic waste. Stirling Methodists have played a leading role in persuading the Scottish and UK Methodist Churches to cut out investment in oil, coal and gas companies which don’t shift to a low carbon future.
Cllr Tollemache, Stirling Council’s sole Scottish Greens Councillor, presented the award to Gill Nunn, a member of the Church’s Green Team who stressed the work which the whole Church had done to achieve the Award and concluded “Now we go for Gold”.
